For those with large collections of photos, videos and music, whether stored locally on hard drives, USB keys, CDs, DVDs, or just about any other media (including floppies), this cataloguer makes finding specific files so much easier. For photos, browsing is further aide by thumbnails. Double-clicking loads the file (right-clicking brings more options). For searching, it is not necessary to insert the media on which the file is stored. The built in catalogue search will locate that file and prompt the user to insert the correct media. Twenty-nine different media file formats are recognized.   Music collections on CD are especially easy for InsideCAT to catalogue, as long as track and author information are available on the Web. Just ask InsideCAT to check the Web. If it finds the CD in the database, all of the song names (and even more data) will be filled in automatically. If not found, the user can still type in the missing information.  The only annoying feature – the entire storage device gets catalogued. A saving grace for the aforementioned annoyance is the ability to exclude selected folders from being catalogued. A highly useful feature is the ability to export the catalogue as a text file (tabbed), just in case the user wants a printout, or wishes to import it into a database. Furthermore, the contents of zip files can be catalogued without opening the compressed master file. For CDs lacking printed labels and sleeves, the program has a built in designer. Notice that images can be used as background.  In summary, this program is ideal for those who wish to track the contents of many individual storage devices, saving a great deal of time in relocating files on them. Just remember that choosing to make thumbnails for a collection will increase the size of the collection files. Fortunately, thumbs are stored in a separate file - separate from the text file. Remember also, the author’s first language is not English, but Spanish. The occasional lapse in spelling and grammar should not detract from the quality of the program itself.
